Sept. 22: Improving Food Access to Build Healthy Communities discussion

Coming Soon: A Special Housing Collaborative Event… “Improving Food Access to Build Healthy Communities”

Tuesday, Sept. 22, 2015, 10:00a.m. – Noon SSMMA Offices – 1906 West 174th Street East Hazel Crest, IL

“Improving Food Access to Build Healthy Communities” will bring together food access advocates and local municipal officials to discuss solutions to improve food access in under-served areas, specifically in suburban Cook County. We will discuss policy solutions in addition to alternative approaches such as farmers markets and community gardens to provide local officials with viable methods to address limited access to healthy food options in their communities. We will also discuss current initiatives that are taking place in Cook County such as the Healthy HotSpot Initiative that aims to address low food access the County by increasing the number of corner stores with expanded healthy food and beverage options. This meeting will highlight the connection between food access and healthy living, and provide local officials with practical ways to promote overall health and wellness in their communities.
