South Suburban Atlas GIS site is ArcGIS Open Data Site of the Week

Oct. 27, 2014 ArcGIS Resources blog post by Courtney Claessen:

The South Suburban Mayors and Managers Association really hits it out of the park with their Open Data site. They have a fantastic, sleek design that tells the SSMMA’s story—the Association is using GIS and open data to drive initiatives that improve their communities, and their Open Data site encourages the people who live there to get involved. The main part of this homepage is really impressive, and it’s just one image! SSMMA has compiled this image offline and then uploaded it to Open Data, illustrating how you can get creative with customization and then easily configure your site’s homepage.

Visitors to the site can easily access and discover data through the twelve data categories highlighted on the homepage, or they can search through the site’s whopping 1,035 datasets all at once. SSMMA is a great example of a site that publishes their own data as well as data from other groups–you can explore data pertaining to the South Suburban area, or explore data from across the entire country. There are tons of Open Data datasets out there for you to take advantage of, either as an Open Data consumer or an Open Data provider. Click here to read more.
