Sept. 20 – 22: IML Annual Conference with SSMMA at NLC session on race, equity and leadership

The Illinois Municipal League (IML) will host its 105th Annual Conference September 20-22, 2018, at the Hilton Chicago, 720 South Michigan Avenue, Chicago, IL 60605. It’s an educational and networking opportunity for municipal officials across Illinois. Don’t miss out on National League of Cities’ session on Learning About Race, Equity and Leadership on Friday, 9/21 with SSMMA’s Executive Director Kristi DeLaurentiis,  Park Forest Mayor John Ostenburg and Richton Park Mayor Rick Reinbold at this year’s IML Annual Conference.

This session details goals and activities of the Race, Equity And Leadership (REAL) initiative of the National League of Cities and demonstrates how it is designed to assist municipalities in dealing with racial disparities. NLC created REAL in 2015 in the aftermath of police-involved shootings that affected a number of U.S. cities. Those incidents exposed underlying elements of racial inequity that were identified as causes for much of the unrest. NLC REAL staff provide assistance to municipalities in identifying opportunities to address racial disparities, advance racial equity and support racial healing at the local level.

In addition, SPC is set to host a vendor booth at the conference. While you’re there, please be sure to stop by the exhibition hall where the Suburban Purchasing Cooperative (SPC) will host Booth #302 featuring staff and the primary vendors of the Cooperative. Confirmed to participate in the SPC booth are Call One (telecommunications), Standard Equipment (street sweepers) and Foster Coach (ambulances). Staff will provide updates as additional vendors confirm participation. The exhibit hall will be open on Thursday, September 20 from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. and on Friday, September 21 from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. For additional information, please contact NWMC Purchasing Director Ellen Dayan, edayan@nwmc-cog.org or 847-296-9200, ext. 132.
