Ryland Homes seeks to move into Matteson, with rentals

As one of the nation’s largest homebuilders, Ryland Homes sold more than 7,600 homes in 17 states last year. Now it wants to become a landlord, in south suburban Matteson.

The company is under contract to purchase 130 acres in an unfinished subdivision from an investor, with plans to finish the streets and infrastructure and build about 300 homes.

Whether the deal goes through hinges not just on tax incentives Ryland is seeking from the village but also whether it will be allowed to construct 27 buildings that will each contain four joined homes…Please click here to read Mary Ellen Podmolik’s story in the Tribune.
