Being Green (in Blue Island)

In the last 50 years, the Midwest has been hit by an increase in flooding—indeed, May 2015 was recorded as the wettest month on record in the Chicago region. These related trends have had a great impact on communities in the region. The city of Blue Island is emphasizing green infrastructure to address this issue—a natural and economical approach to water management that creates healthier urban environments. “It’s good doing these projects in Blue Island because it’s an established community with institutions that support green infrastructure,” says Jason Berry, deputy director of planning and building for Blue Island. “There’s a growing awareness of sustainability in Blue Island…” Read more here.
