58 Safe Routes to School projects approved for funding totaling $5.9 million


The Illinois Department of Transportation announced yesterday that 58 projects have been approved for funding totaling $5.9 million for the 2014 Safe Routes to School (SRTS) Program. Southland communities include:

Phoenix – $160,000 to construct new sidewalk and replace substandard sidewalks in the area around Coolidge Middle School Country Club Hills – $160,000 to construct sidewalk on 180th Street as well as Kostner Avenue Richton Park – $136, 000 to construct new sidewalk along Klawitter Park north of Neil Armstrong School and new curb ramps and sidewalk east of Richton Square School Beecher— $118,000 to add new school zone speed limit and crosswalk signage on Miller Street, Cardinal Boulevard, Church Road and Penfield Street
