3-Term Flossmoor Mayor Braun hangs up hat on future reelections

SSMMA

Best wishes, congratulations and a salute to former SSMMA President and current Flossmoor Mayor Paul Braun, who served the Association, Flossmoor and the entire Southland region so very well!

From Flossmoor Mayor Paul Braun, who announced on Facebook today that he will not seek a fourth term as Flossmoor mayor:

Today I announce that I will not be seeking a fourth term as Mayor of the Village of Flossmoor when my current term ends in May, 2021. As others have said, being mayor is a job of a lifetime but it is not a job for a lifetime.

Having been elected Mayor of Flossmoor in April, 2009 it has been my pleasure and honor to serve this wonderful community for the past eleven and a half years. Having also served on the Flossmoor Planning Commission for five years and as a trustee on the Village Board for six and a half years, the past twenty-three years of public service have been very enriching and rewarding. I will greatly miss the terrific board members and village staff that I have worked with over the years and I can say with confidence that the dedication shown by past village board members and staff has made Flossmoor what it is today, a welcoming, beautiful, and connected community.

I am pleased to say that over the past twelve years, Flossmoor has had great successes in maintaining financial stability, economic development, sustainability initiatives, infrastructure improvements, community programs, and marketing/promotion of the community. We have extended Flossmoor’s involvement, leadership and influence in regional, state and federal organizations and initiatives. The Village’s coordination and work with our community partners including the Flossmoor Library, Homewood-Flossmoor Park District, Homewood Flossmoor High School District 233, and Flossmoor School District 161 has been strengthened for the benefit of residents as a result of village board members and village staff who are committed to only serving the best interest of Flossmoor residents.

Accomplishments that I am particularly proud of include the establishment of the Flossmoor Green Commission that has brought real-life practical environmentally conscious programs into Flossmoor households, numerous new Flossmoor businesses such as Meijer, Dunnings Gourmet Market, Buona Beef, Starbucks, Jersey Mikes, Lou Malnati’s Pizza, and other boutique businesses in Flossmoor Commons and Downtown Flossmoor, the reconstruction and refurbishment of the Flossmoor Metra Train Station, and serving as President of the South Suburban Mayors and Managers Association. Sales tax revenues from Village business have increased four times the amount collected in 2009 due to our economic development efforts. These accomplishment would not have been possible but for the excellent work of Village Staff and the Flossmoor Village Board of Trustees for which I will always remain grateful for their help and collegiality.

It is my hope that others in the community will step forward and run for election as Mayor for Flossmoor in the April, 2021 municipal election. I can assure you that your service is needed as we continue to work to help keep Flossmoor a wonderful place to live, work, and raise our families.

Paul S. Braun

Mayor
