27-year local police veteran named as new deputy chief in South Holland

Since joining the police department back in 1986, Richard S. Good has worked his way up through the ranks.

Starting out as a patrol officer/paramedic, he also has served as a juvenile officer who worked on a regular basis with Thornwood High School students.

Later, he helped create the village police department’s special operations unit as he worked his way up in rank to the title of lieutenant detective – which he held until Monday.

On that day, the Village Board voted 5-0 to promote Good to deputy chief. Officials later celebrated the promotion with an after-Village Board meeting party of cake and coffee.
