Wal-Mart Supercenter opens in Olympia Fields; nearby grocer wary

Wal-Mart is opening a new 183,000-square-foot Supercenter in Olympia Fields Wednesday [9/14/16]. A couple miles away, the owner of a small grocery store said bigger does not necessarily mean better, but he remains optimistic.

The opening of a large store “will always impact some, but I don’t think it will impact much,” said Jeff Jabar, owner of Country Squire Foods, 113 W. Joe Orr Road, Chicago Heights. “(Customers) always turn around and come back to you.”

The Wal-Mart Supercenter at 21000 Western Ave. will employ 330 people and sell both food and general merchandise. Store manager Will Konrath said that the expansive variety of products will appeal to everyone…Please click here to read Erin Gallagher’s story in the Tribune/Daily Southtown.
