State budget would take bite out of major crimes task force

Gov. Bruce Rauner’s budget plan for the 2015-16 fiscal year would result in the loss of the main source of funds for the South Suburban Major Crimes Task Force, a special unit often called in to investigate some of the Southland’s most heinous crimes.

And his recent freeze on state spending means much of the state grant money promised to the unit in the current budget won’t be coming.

The loss of the grant money for this fiscal year and next would be a crippling blow to the task force, but it’s turning to its member towns for a contribution to enable it to keep operating, task force officials said…Please click here to read Mike Nolan’s story in the Tribune/Daily Southtown.
