Southland closes books on 2014’s top news

The federal government’s stamp of approval for a controversial highway project and the completion of the first phase of a long-awaited interchange were among the top news stories in the Southland this year.

A judge’s ruling that will close a local shopping mall, voter approval of term limits that will end the tenure of a long-serving mayor in one community, and the settlement of a lawsuit over a village’s use of tainted well water were also in the headlines.
