Officials stress safety as building trades continue working during pandemic

Construction workers remain on the job for the most part amid the coronavirus pandemic despite a statewide stay-at-home order that has idled much of the Illinois economy.

“The next real big build-out is happening now in the south suburbs,” said Reggie Greenwood, executive director of the Chicago Southland Economic Development Corporation. “Our biggest advantages are location and availability of a well-trained workforce.”

Crews are building about 3 million square feet of warehouse space in Country Club Hills, Monee and University Park, Greenwood said.
