New interchange a ‘rebirth’ for University Park


A new interchange at Interstate 57 and Stuenkel Road in University Park might help Bill Kresse stick to his diet.

A professor at Governors State University, he recently lost several pounds, and his previous route took him past a tempting fast-food restaurant.

But local officials hope the new interchange, which opened to traffic a week ago, will be a key to fostering economic development in that area along with providing better access to GSU and the University Park station on Metra’s Electric Line.

The $43.2 million project by the Illinois Department of Transportation provides a new link to the interstate between Sauk Trail to the north and Monee-Manhattan Road to the south…Please click here to read Mike Nolan’s story in the Tribune/Daily Southtown.
