Nekritz still has faith in pension reform

State Rep. Elaine Nekritz, D-Northbrook, who led the fight to pass pension reform in the legislature, told me that she believes the Illinois Supreme Court will ultimately rule that law is constitutional.

The measure was passed in a desperate attempt to plug a $100 billion-plus deficit in the state’s pension systems and a circuit court judge has ruled that it is unconstitutional.

Many legal scholars and state legislators agree with that assessment, as did state Sen. President John Cullerton, D-Chicago, who proposed his own plan even while Senate Bill 1, the legislation backed by Nekritz that ultimately passed, was being debated…Please click here to read Phil Kadner’s column in the Tribune.
