More than 50 bicyclists made a special stop Sunday morning in Oak Forest, on their fourth and final day of riding across Illinois.

They came to honor the memory of fallen Oak Forest Police Officer Jim Morrissy, who was killed in a car crash while on duty on March 17, 2014. It was the 11th annual fundraising ride by the Illinois Chapter of Concerns of Police Survivors (COPS).

Morrissy’s widow Janice and three sons — Kyle, Marc and Jake — greeted the riders as they turned off Central Avenue into the municipal parking lot, where the American flag flew from the top of a fire department ladder truck and the Bagpipes & Drums of the Emerald Society, Chicago Police Department, played “Simple Gifts…” Please click here to read Susan DeMar Lafferty’s story in the Tribune/Daily Southtown.
