Chicago’s next mayor is key to political fate of South Suburban Airport


Political forces greater than the governor have resisted the effort. Politicians in our big neighbor to the north have long leveraged union labor and other forces to protect interests at O’Hare and Midway airports that might be threatened by the so-called “third airport” near Peotone.

“Part of the impetus of us not being further along is that the Chicago mayor has always stood in the way of our airport — that’s the political side,” state Rep.
