Residents can now say they live in a city with an award-winning commitment to encouraging active and healthy living. Friday the Chicago Heights Active Transportation Plan won the Illinois chapter of the American Planning Association Award for Implementation.
“This award recognizes the best of the best in Illinois,” said Leslie Phemister, Outreach Manager for the Active Transportation Alliance. “This team has done amazing work on implementing a plan and I’m so very excited.”
Chicago Heights began work on its active transportation plan in 2012, assembling a steering committee and holding several idea-sharing meetings with residents. The executive summary of the plan states it is composed of “improvements to the physical infrastructure, policies and programs that make it safer and more convenient for people to walk, bike and use transit in Chicago Heights.”…Please click here to read the rest.
