Budget ‘uncertainty’ weighs on local communities

As Gov. Bruce Rauner presented his budget proposal Wednesday for the upcoming fiscal year, Elaine Maimon was more concerned about the still-unresolved stalemate over the current budget.

In a letter earlier this month to faculty and staff at Governors State University, Maimon, president of the University Park school, said GSU was “running on fumes” because it’s still waiting to find out what it’s appropriation for this budget year will be. The school has dipped into reserve funds to pay its bills, and has covered $3 million in financial assistance grants for students who haven’t received the money from the state because of the budget impasse…Please click here to read Mike Nolan’s story in the Tribune/Southtown Star.
