U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency is releasing the Fiscal Year 2013 Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program (AFG) grant guidance and applications kit. Applications can be made from Nov. 4, 2013 to Dec. 3, 2013.

The primary goal of the Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) is to meet the firefighting and emergency response needs of fire departments and non-affiliated emergency medical service organizations. Since 2001, AFG has helped firefighters and other first responders to obtain critically needed equipment, protective gear, emergency vehicles, training, and other resources needed to protect the public and emergency personnel from fire and related hazards.

Program Objectives: • The objective of the FY 2013 AFG Program is to award grants directly to fire departments, nonaffiliated EMS organizations, and state fire training academies for critically needed resources to protect the public, to train emergency personnel, and to foster inter-operability and support community resilience. • The purpose of the AFG Program is to enhance through direct financial assistance, the health and safety of the public and firefighting personnel and to provide a continuum of support for emergency responders regarding fire, medical, and all hazard events.
