SSMMA elects new officers, recognizes new/outgoing mayors at May 28 dinner meeting

The South Suburban Mayors and Managers Association nominated and elected officers for the 2015-2016 year at the dinner meeting held May 28, 2015 at the Olympia Fields Country Club. Their term runs from June 2015 to May 2016. SSMMA’s new officers are follows:

  1. President: Mayor Debbie Meyers Martin, Olympia Fields

  2. Vice-President: Mayor John Ostenburg, Park Forest

  3. Secretary: Mayor Vernard Alsberry, Hazel Crest

  4. Treasurer: Mayor Jay Farquhar, Monee

  5. Cook County at Large: Mayor Norm Abbott, Lansing

  6. Cook County at Large: Mayor Tyrone Ward, Robbins

  7. Will County at Large: Mayor Greg Szymanski, Beecher

The association also used the occasion to recognize the late Summit Mayor Joseph Strzelczyk with a moment of silence. He died on May 17 while on medical leave.

SSMMA welcomed new Mayors James Ford of Country Club Hills, Ronald Gardiner of Glenwood, Steve Cross of Peotone, Dave Seaman of Tinley Park and Sergio Rodriguez of Summit.

The mayors and managers also recognized outgoing members and bid them a fond farewell, including former Country Club Hills Mayor Dwight Welch, former Glenwood Mayor Kerry Durkin and retiring Tinley Park Mayor Ed Zabrocki.
