SSMMA approves 2017 legislative priorities

The South Suburban Mayors and Managers Association approved their 2017 Legislative Priorities program at the Feb. 16 business meeting.

The program seeks to address the stability of local governments and the south suburban communities, as well as the legislative needs of the southern suburbs.

This year the Legislative Priorities focus on those items that the SSMMA believes are its top state, federal and county priorities for 2017:

  1. Ensure the Stability of Local Government and Municipal Budgets

  2. Pass a New, Comprehensive Capital Bill

  3. Expand Casinos— include a South Suburban License

  4. Support Key Transportation Projects— South Suburban Airport, Metra Southeast Commuter Rail Line, and the Illiana Expressway

  5. Adequately Fund Our Higher Education Institutions
