U.S. presidents have the authority to create national parks without congressional approval, and backers of a proposal to turn the one-time Pullman Palace Railcar Co. and its surrounding company town into a national park said Thursday they are likely to ask President Barack Obama to do just that.
The remains of the Pullman factory at 111th Street and Cottage Grove Avenue are an Illinois State Historic Preservation Agency site.
