Officials consider sports complex, housing for Tinley Park health center site

While redevelopment of the former Tinley Park Mental Health Center is a ways off from being realized, some residents and the village’s lead consultant on a proposed plan meant to steer the direction of that development are at odds over the best use of the 280-acre site.

The Village Board will, in the coming months, likely take a vote on a master plan for repurposing the property northwest of Harlem Avenue and 183rd Street. Tentative proposals so far envision mainly housing being built there, with the site’s handicap of being in Cook County, and corresponding higher taxes for commercial, tamping down any interest in significant retail uses for the land…Please click here to read Mike Nolan’s story in the Tribune/Daily Southown.
