Mayors, trustees, aldermen and clerks get trained for new roles at Newly Elected Officials Workshop

Nearly 75 newly and previously elected officials joined SSMMA for a workshop on introductions to municipal government, budgeting, ethics, the Open Meetings Act, the Freedom of Information Act and more. The Newly Elected Officials Workshop was held June 8 at SSMMA offices in East Hazel Crest and sponsored by Comcast.
Park Forest Village Manager Tom Mick and Country Club Hills Interim Finance Director Donna Gayden led a discussion on the role of village/city manager/administrator, municipal budgeting and finance, and budgeting in difficult economic times.
Attorney John Murphey, senior partner of Rosenthal, Murphey & Coblentz, provided an overview of municipal procedures and practices, the Freedom of Information Act, the role of elected officials, litigation, personnel and labor issues, and emerging legal decisions facing municipalities.
SSMMA Executive Director Kristi DeLaurentiis described the programs and services that SSMMA offers in support of our municipal members, and conducted a raffle drawing for rain barrels provided by the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District (MWRD). More photos are here.
