Engaging Your Community: It’s More than Three Minutes at the Microphone!

This program is sponsored by the International City/County Management Association and its Center for Management Strategies.  The Center for Management Strategies provides the latest research, education, training and technical assistance to local governments addressing the essential responsibilities of the local government manager and his/her management team.

Led by a team of leading practitioners in citizen engagement, this one-day workshop in Chicagoland will cover the latest engagement trends and best practices and help participants identify first steps toward building an effective, coordinated civic engagement program for their organizations. (4 AICP CM Credits)

Workshop Participants Will:

  1. Learn the hidden costs of not engaging the public well;

  2. Analyze the strengths and limitations of current engagement practices;

  3. Gain insights into specific strategies for engaging communities around community visioning, budgeting, and public neighborhood safety/security;

  4. Introduce the CMS Civic Engagement Assessment Tool to gauge their organization’s readiness and capacity for this work; and,

  5. Identify first steps towards building an effective, long-term, multi-faceted civic engagement plan for their organization.
