The south suburbs again have the highest property tax rates in the Chicago area, according to a report released Thursday by Cook County Clerk David Orr’s office.
The report shows that the small, impoverished village of Ford Heights is at the very top with a 2014 tax rate of 38.4 percent for those living in Ford Heights School District 169.
Homeowners in Barrington’s Unit School District 220 had the lowest composite tax rate in suburban Cook County at 7.1 percent, while those in Chicago enjoyed a lower rate at 6.8 percent…Please click here to read Phil Kadner’s column in the Tribune/Daily Southtown.
