Field Foundation Information Session on community empowerment

The Field Foundation hosted their sixth Information Session of the year at a full house of past and potential grantees at SSMMA’s offices on Dec. 11. The Field Foundation supports projects in the areas of Art, Justice, Leadership Investment and Media & Storytelling as well as a “Leaders for a New Chicago” Award. Read more. The workshop included a session for organizations and projects that focus on storytelling, media creation, and journalism that is by, about, and for African, Latinx, Asian, Arab and Native American (ALAANA) communities and organizations on the South Side, West Side, and South and Southwest Suburbs of Chicago.

Generally, grants range in size from $10,000 – $50,000 for the following types: Project (support for a specific project or program), Capital (assistance with the purchase or repair of a building, equipment or technology), Operating (general operations) and Capacity (grants to improve operational effectiveness of the organization).

All organizations must create a profile on the online grants portal and then submit a letter of inquiry. Read more about how to start your application.

The Field Foundation sent these follow-up resources:

  1. You can see the slides from the session at this link. Since they update this presentation regularly, they will make it available only through the end of the year in order to be sure you don’t refer to it in the future when some of the information might be outdated.

  2. If you missed the session, they live-streamed it on Facebook and it’s available for your viewing/listening at this link. The quality may not be the best, but it should give you a general idea of what was discussed.

  3. If you would like to stay connected with Field Foundation and be the first to know about announcements in the future, you can sign up for the email newsletter and also follow them on FacebookTwitter, and Instagram if you don’t already. This is the best way to hear about deadlines, new initiatives, and other news.

  4. Their next LOI deadline is 11:59 p.m. on January 15, 2020. They will then have deadlines later in the year on May 15 and September 15. You can get started on your application here.
