General Summary and Expectations for Mechanic

General Summary: Performs repair and maintenance of a wide variety of automotive, heavy equipment, small engines, pumps and power tools. The ability to direct self in the activities engaged in such repair and maintenance including inspection and diagnostic. Able to work with limited supervision. Expected to learn and follow procedures, rules, operations, equipment, tools, and duties of this department.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

• Schedule and perform maintenance repair on all Village vehicles, trucks, equipment, machinery and tools. • Proficient knowledge of diesel engines, gasoline engines, transmissions, hydraulic systems, electrical and air systems. • Maintains and repairs stationary engines in water pumping stations. • Performs fabrication and welding when necessary. • Purchases parts (with authorization from the Director), and assist in the purchase of new equipment.

Job Requirements:

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent. • Successful completion of local Civil Service testing and requirements. • Valid driver license is required. • Proof of certificate for technical and/or vocational training in the heavy equipment automotive repair field. • Complete a six (6) month probationary period. • Class B CDL • Requires the ability to properly diagnose, repair and maintain vehicles, trucks and heavy equipment. • Work a minimum of 40 hour week with mandatory alternating periods of on-call overtime. • On call for all emergency overtime. • Required to work outdoors in all temperatures and weather conditions.
