The South Suburban Mayors and Managers Association (SSMMA) seeks a Planning Analyst. SSMMA is a non-profit Council of Governments representing 43 communities in south Cook and eastern Will counties. SSMMA is involved in transportation, housing, economic development, open space, environmental, broadband and other issues important to our member communities and our region. SSMMA’s GIS department supports these activities and maintains the South Suburban Atlas which provides efficient, innovative and high quality GIS services to members of the South Suburban GIS Consortium.  The job description can be downloaded here.

Position Description

The Planning Analyst will be responsible for the following tasks:

• Collecting, organizing and inputting data used by SSMMA Housing staff and South Suburban Land Bank and Development Authority (SSLBDA) staff. Analyzing data to identify, evaluate and make inferences on trends. • Conducting research and preparing results for use by SSMMA and SSLBDA staff on specific planning programs areas or ordinances. • Uploading and managing geospatial data in web mapping applications (ssatlas.org). • Updating and maintaining records pertaining to properties donated, purchased, or considered by the SSLBDA. • Working with housing, transportation and economic development staff to provide mapping and planning support for various projects. • Assisting with updating land bank and housing websites.

Required Skills

The Planning Analyst should have a working knowledge of ArcGIS software including ESRI ArcGIS 10.2, ESRI ArcServer 10.2, ESRI Network Analyst, ESRI Spatial Analyst and ArcGIS Online as well as Microsoft Office, AutoCAD. Familiarity with ESRI Business Analyst Online is desirable.

A bachelor’s or Master’s (preferred) degree in urban and regional planning or related field of study is required. Relevant professional experience may be substituted for education.

This is a full time (35 hours/week), salaried position and includes a fringe benefit package. South Suburban Mayors and Managers Association is an equal opportunity employer. Salary is negotiable and is dependent upon qualifications.
