Editorial: South Suburban Airport needed to regain aviation market

In 2000, O’Hare and Midway airports reached operational capacity, and Illinois has been losing aviation market share ever since.

United and American Airlines have shifted much of their domestic hub operations away from O’Hare to Denver and Dallas, respectively. O’Hare’s cargo ranking has dropped from 12th in the world in 2001 to 21st today, a stark statistic underscoring the need for a plan to reverse the decline.
