  • June 2024 Environmental Justice Committee Meeting Recap

Meeting Materials The SSMMA Environmental Justice Committee met on Thursday, June 13 and heard presentations from ComEd on their latest solar offerings, specifically their Distributed Generation (DG) Rebate Program, and Hera Property Registry. Hera provides municipalities with a no cost solution to comprehensive property registration and clean data, working with banks, registrants, property management companies, and mortgage servicers across the United States. Since October 2023, Hera has worked to collect $329,306.42 for the twelve SSMMA communities they are currently partnered with. We hope you will join us for our next meeting, September 12 at 2:00pm on Zoom. From the Committee Chairperson, Mayor Jada D. Curry of Lynwood: “The Environmental Justice Committee is our newest advising body and some of you might wonder why it's so important. SSMMA has been working hard to advance the Southland and ensure equity for all. Each of us must do our part and that includes participating in these conversations. If you can't attend, please try to have representation from your community.  Transformation does not have to be overwhelming, but it does require engagement. Join us!” Add the September 12 meeting to your calendar: Office365  Outlook  Google

  • LeadCare Cook County: A Program to Help You Comply with State Lead Service Line Replacement Requirements

Illinois’ Lead Service Line Replacement and Notification Act requires community water suppliers to create a plan for replacing lead service lines at high-risk facilities like child care facilities. SSMMA is excited to share that free resources are available in suburban Cook County to replace lead service lines at licensed child care facilities and help your community comply with replacement requirements. LeadCare Cook County, a program administered by the nonprofit Elevate and Cook County Government, offers free lead service line identification and replacement for home and center-based child care facilities. Through the program, a licensed plumber inspects the water service line and replaces it for free if it’s made of lead or galvanized material. The program also provides free restoration to impacted areas inside and outside the property, filters, and follow-up lead-in-water testing. How Municipalities Can Help! Your municipality is invited to partner with the LeadCare Cook County program to help share program information with child care providers and other stakeholders in your community. We can provide helpful materials like fact sheets and testimonials and connect you with the program team to learn more. Connect and learn more today by visiting LeadCareCookCounty.org/SSMMA or contact the team at info@LeadCareCookCounty.org  or 773‒389‒5657.
