Paid internship opportunity: Orland Park community sustainability position

Village of Orland Park, Community Sustainability Intern The Village of Orland Park seeks a Community Sustainability Intern to perform a wide variety of community sustainability coordination tasks related to the village’s participation in the STAR Community Rating System. The STAR Community Rating System is the first national framework to measure community sustainability at the city or county scale and provide a tracking system to help local governments measure their progress towards achieving community sustainability goals. This position will work directly with Village departments to determine alignment between Orland Park’s local sustainability initiatives and STAR performance metrics, identify and collaborate with key resources (internal and external) and partners to support Orland Park’s STAR application, participate in STAR webinars with other pilot communities, submit data/complete quantitative analysis/provide narrative responses into STAR’s online reporting tool. This position will also write and research award and grant applications relating to Orland Park’s sustainability measures. This position will research and collect information on community conditions related to STAR’s 7 goal areas: Built Environment; Climate & Energy; Economy & Jobs; Education, Arts & Community; Equity & Empowerment; Health & Safety; and Natural Systems. This position will also draft case studies, blog posts, reports, and other communication for the public to share information about STAR and Orland Park’s sustainability initiatives and manage updates to the Village’s Community Sustainability webpage.

Ideal candidate is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in public administration, urban planning, sustainability or related field. A Bachelor’s degree in one of the above or other related field is required. Must have strong research, written/verbal communication skills, strong interpersonal skills and high level of attention to detail. Microsoft Office proficiency is required. In depth skill level with Excel and experience with ArcGIS is preferred. The ability to multi-task and work independently with general direction are also required.

Hours: Approximately 20 hours per week, with some flexibility. A consistent work schedule will be required. Pay-Rate: Starting at $12.50 per hour. This position is IMRF eligible.
