Ford Motor Company will make a $1.1 billion investment in the Calumet region, according to a recent contract agreement made between the United Auto Workers and the company. The investment will have a major impact on the region, say leaders of organizations that have worked for years to promote and develop the region. It is believed that this would be one of the largest investments ever made by a manufacturer in the Chicago region.
“Ford’s investment is a major development for the region,” says Sarah Coulter, senior program manager for Millennium Reserve. “It’s an important example of how the Calumet region continues to support large and small manufacturers.”
In November, Ford workers across the country approved a national contract that will bring $1.1 billion into the Calumet region, including $900 million to its Chicago assembly plant in the Hegewisch neighborhood on the southeast side..Please click here to read more on the Millennium Reserve Priorities blog.
