Steger Village Hall a long way from being rebuilt after fire

It could take another two years and the cost is likely to exceed $1 million for village officials in Steger to return to the permanent village hall building that was damaged in a fire in June, Mayor Ken Peterson said. A fire that resulted from a storm June 30 destroyed more than half of the building at 35 W. 34th St., which also housed the police department.

Investigators determined the cause was either a lightning strike or a power surge, Peterson said.
