SSMMA passes resolution to form Complete Count Census Committee

Following  Cook County Commissioner Stanley Moore’s presentation on “The Plan-The Complete Census Count Commission and Committee” to the South Suburban Mayors and Managers Association at the June 20 business meeting, SSMMA passed a resolution to form a Complete Count Census Committee (CCC) to partner with the U.S. Census Bureau, the State of Illinois, Cook County, the Metropolitan Mayors Caucus, other councils of governments (COGS) and others. The purpose is to:

1. Support the goals for the 2020 Census and will disseminate 2020 Census information. 2. Encourage all Illinois South Suburban residents to participate in events and initiatives that will raise the overall awareness of the 2020 Census and increase participation. 3. Support census takers as they help all Illinois South Suburban residents complete an accurate count. 4. Strive to achieve a complete and accurate count of all persons within the Illinois South Suburbs.

To continue the conversation about the upcoming 2020 Census Count, please consider becoming involved in the Complete The Count 2020 program managed by the Metropolitan Mayors Caucus. Thanks to a grant award from the Office of the Illinois Secretary of State, the Caucus is proud to announce its Census participation program to help municipalities achieve the most complete and accurate count of their residents. The Caucus will develop a peer-to-peer sharing network for municipalities managing their CCCs; organize a fall Ideas Exchange in the Southland; and help local governments secure state resources to increase participation. To become involved, please contact Kyle Smith, Director of Housing and Community Development, at ksmith@mayorscaucus.org or 312.201.4507. Local and regional grant programs depend on it.
