Nearly 125 participants including members of the South Suburban Mayors and Managers Association, legislators and regional business leaders gathered Feb. 8 at our annual Legislative Breakfast for panel discussions on the association’s 2019 Legislative Priorities. The event was held at Idlewild Country Club in Flossmoor.
This year, SSMMA’s Legislative Committee targeted four high priority goals for the south suburban region. These four priorities—while seemingly unrelated—have at their core the same goals: improving the Southland’s overall stability, sustainability, and financial solvency to ensure long-term economic success. The future of south suburban communities depends on:
Expanding the economic development tools of the Southland,
Stabilizing local government and municipal budgets,
Reforming and consolidating public safety pension funds, and
Passing a fiscally responsible capital infrastructure Investment program
