On January 7, 1966, Martin Luther King Jr. collaborated with the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC) to announce plans for the Chicago Freedom Movement (CFM). The CFM was a campaign that shifted the civil rights struggle from southern cities to the north—in this instance, to join the struggle against discrimination in housing.
