Downstate scoffs at HB Bill 477 which could add $.02 phone surcharge for Emergency Telephone System

House Bill 477 would add a 2-cent surcharge to all Illinois cellphone service lines if made law, and the charge could possibly expand to landline service in the future, according to representatives from the office of Rep. Norine Hammond, R-Macomb. The 2 cents would be placed in the Emergency Telephone System Fund — which has been used to fund emergency 911 services — and then pulled and added to the South Suburban Trauma Center Fund, a new fund created by the bill that would finance a trauma center in the South Suburbs of Chicago…Please click here to read Rebecca Susmarski ‘s story in the Register-Mail.
