From the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago:

On June 18, 2014 Public Act 98-0652 was signed into law. This legislation amended the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago’s (District’s) authority for Stormwater Management in Cook County to allow for the acquisition of flood-prone properties. Subsequent to amending our Cook County Stormwater Management Plan to be consistent with PA 98-0652, the District’s Board of Commissioners adopted a policy on the selection and prioritization of projects for acquiring flood-prone property.

There are two avenues municipalities can utilize to participate in the District’s program: 1. Local Sponsor Assistance Pro rg am -The District’s top priority will be to facilitate the Illinois Emergency Management Agency’s federally funded program by assisting Local Sponsor communities in providing their share of the cost for property acquisition. 2. Local Government Application Proms -The District will consider applications directly from local governments requesting property acquisition of specific flood-prone structures.

The District is asking all communities interested in participating in this program to provide basic information summarizing potential acquisition properties: 1. Pre-application (enclosed) 2. Descriptive narrative of the project 3. Maps of the target area A. Map with target parcels highlighted (can be obtained at http://cookviewer l .cookcount~~ov/j sviewer/mapviewer.html) B. FEMA FIRM map and Detailed Watershed Plan Inundation Map (available at http://stormwater.nlwrd.or~/) with target area highlighted. 4. An approximate cost analysis.
