Please join SSMMA in welcoming Community Development Planner Kimberly Morris.
Her past experience includes serving as an Economic Development Manager for the Bronzeville Retail Initiative. There, she worked with local government officials to retain and recruit small businesses to the Bronzeville area, connect business owners with resources and provide them with the technical assistance needed to start and/or grow their small business.
In her role at SSMMA, Ms. Morris will be engaging suburban communities in the Healthy Hot Spot Initiative sponsored by the Center for Disease Control (CDC) and the Cook County Department of Public Health (CCDPH). This program aims to provide solutions to the problem of limited healthy food access in low-income areas or food deserts by expanding corner stores’ capacity to sell healthy foods. The goal of this initiative is to help provide practical, readily available options that make healthy living easier in the south suburbs.
Kim holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Urban and Regional Planning from the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign and a Master of Public Administration degree from the University of Illinois, Chicago. She is a life-long resident of Chicago and currently lives in Hyde Park. In her free time, she enjoys running and biking with her daughter along the lake front.
She can be reached at 708-922-4672 or kimberly.morris@ssmma.org.
