Charting a new course for a “New Paradigm”
|
With over 21 years of experience and some of the most dramatic and unexpected
changes in the Chicago Southland, Diversity, Inc. is looking ahead to both the
coming year as well as the next decade.
|
The dynamics of our diverse region have changed and a “New Paradigm” of race
and housing has taken hold since Diversity, Inc.’s creation in 1982. There are
more communities in the metropolitan area that are diverse in their residential
character and as the Northeastern Illinois Planning Commission points out the
growing diversity will be widespread by the year 2030.
|
Staff and Board Members are working to measure the vitality of the region,
explore where we need to go and how do we get there together as racially,
ethnically and economically diverse people. Our Southland region is home to
wealth as well as poverty, this is an area with residents who value each
other’s differences and achieves strength and unity through our diversity.
|
An initiative of Diversity, Inc. entitled “THE BUSINESS CASE FOR DIVERSITY,
INC” is a planning effort evaluating “Where We Are” and what adjustments the
organization needs to consider in order continue to be responsive to the needs
of our member communities. Over the next year Diversity, Inc. is undertaking an
analysis of current socio-economic, demographic, political and commercial
conditions in the Chicago Southland. This analysis will provide future
directions, initiatives, structure and products which Diversity, Inc. will
develop and present to the region.
|
The BUSINES CASE FOR DIVERSITY, INC. concludes that Diversity, Inc.’s programs
must reach beyond discrimination, recognizing the “New Paradigm” of
multi-cultural, economically vital communities.
|
Throughout the coming year work will continue on this project
and as stakeholders in our mission we will keep each of you informed.
