Diversity, Inc.

Diversity, Inc. is an intergovernmental not-for-profit organization. Organized in 1982 the organization has 20 member municipalities located in the region south of the City of Chicago, Illinois and included in southern Cook County, eastern Will County and Kankakee County:

Calumet City, Calumet Park, Chicago Heights, Country Club Hills, East Hazel Crest, Flossmoor, Glenwood, Harvey, Homewood, Kankakee, Lynwood, Oak Lawn, Olympia Fields, Orland Hills, Park Forest, Riverdale, Sauk Village, South Holland, Thornton and University Park.

The Organization's Mission

Diversity Inc. is organized to create and maintain the social, economic, political, and commercial conditions which foster racially, ethnically and culturally diverse residential environments.

Diversity, Inc. and South Suburban Mayors and Managers Association:

Diversity Inc. collaborates with the South Suburban Mayors and Managers Association (SSMMA) on their annual Legislative Priorities. Diversity, Inc. provides legislators information on these priorities and how proposed laws effect the mission of the organization.

Diversity, Inc. is the designated agency to deal with issues related to diversity and fair housing on behalf of the South Suburban Mayors and Managers Association.

Diversity, Inc. maintains open lines of communication to all Mayor and Manager members of SSMMA through regular and special reports on activities effecting the member municipalities.

Diversity Inc. and Cook County:

Diversity, Inc. is a recipient of funds from the Housing and Community Development Act through Cook County’s Department of Planning.

Diversity, Inc. has collaborated with the County in the development to Fair Housing Planning requirements of sub-recipients of County Community Development Block Grant Funds.

Diversity, Inc. is available to assist municipal governments in the development of the required Fair Housing Action Plans as part of the County’s Community Development Block Grant program.

Diversity Inc. helped to initiate a mobility-counseling program adopted by the Housing Authority of the County of Cook to assist Housing Choice Voucher recipients to locate outside of areas of concentrated low-income households and segregated African American communities.

Diversity, Inc. and the U.S. Dept. of Housing and Urban Development:

Diversity Inc. works closely with the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development and was recognized by the Department with its Best Practices Award.

Diversity, Inc. facilitates better communication between the Department of HUD and member municipalities on issues of HUD held properties and FHA Insured Mortgage Foreclosures.
